My name is Rachel. I am a lesbian mother of two beautiful sons and a recovering academic.  I used to teach women studies classes, and now I am doing the full-time job of mothering our infant son and two-year-old.  Because of my experience of pregnancy and birth, I’ll probably become a doula once both my kids can sleep through the night on their own.

I started this blog three months after giving birth to my son Aran. After a really difficult 41-hour labor (which ended with a healthy baby and a mama with a fourth degree tear) I had to do a lot of healing in the fourth trimester. The online community of “mommy bloggers” and birth activists has been a great source of support for me these last few months. I truly believe that being able to feel connected to others through social media helped prevent feelings of isolation which can so often develop into postpartum depression. Now I want to contribute to that community as well. I’m looking forward to sharing my birth story and my continuing journey of motherhood here.
